The right time to become sexually active is up to you

There is no age that you must become sexually active. It all depends on the person and their readiness to become sexually active. You should certainly not have sex due to peer pressure or someone else’s opinion. Everyone should start when they feel ready – both mentally and physically.

Most people are scared of their first time because being naked and touching each other’s body and genital area can be intimidating. Girls are afraid of pain and boys worry about whether they are big or good enough. Such fears are normal and go hand in hand with sexual activity.

Getting over your fears and having intercourse may take a long time, even months or years, until you finally feel ready to have sex. Some couples do not even have sex at the beginning of their relationship, which is perfectly normal because it is an important step in their life.

Most young people start having sex around the age of 17, some earlier and some later. However, this age is very individual, and this decision is up to you. In a nutshell, there is no right age to start having sex. There is only the right time, which is when a person feels that they truly want to have intercourse with their partner.

Remember:

  • Having sexual intercourse is a decision between two people.
  • Sexual intercourse should not take place due to a partner’s pressure.
  • There is no need to be ashamed of your body – it is normal just the way it is.
  • Communicate with your partner, express mutual expectations and share your concerns and joy.
