Sometimes we cope very well with hardship, but at other times we need the help and support of friends and loved ones to manage.<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When we talk about depression, it is important to know what it means. Depression is a persistent low mood accompanied by a loss of joy in life and decreased energy, resulting in a reduced ability to cope and quality of life.<\/span><\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-db8e586 elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"db8e586\" data-element_type=\"section\" data-e-type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-de5fb4d\" data-id=\"de5fb4d\" data-element_type=\"column\" data-e-type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-45b123e elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"45b123e\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><b>Here are three signs to help you recognise whether your loved one or friend might be suffering from depression:<\/b><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They have been withdrawn or unhappy for a long time. A person being occasionally tired and sad or depressed does not mean they have depression. However, low spirits lasting for weeks is a sign of depression. So, a one-time experience does not indicate depression, but symptoms like sadness, low spirits and feeling hopeless persisting for at least two weeks do.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Symptoms of depression are expressed in behaviour, thinking and feelings, but also in physical reactions. This may cause a depressed person to feel like everything around them is pointless and hopeless, but they may also feel irritated and very anxious at the same time. There is no uniform feeling that all depressed people must feel or by which to describe depression.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sudden problems at school may also indicate depression, be it learning difficulties or poor grades, but computer and internet addiction, the desire to run away from home and substance abuse may also be red flags.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-9dcfea6 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"9dcfea6\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There is a questionnaire to help people assess whether they are depressed or not. You can fill it in <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/peaasi.ee\/kusimustikud-depressiooni-hindamiseks\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">here<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (in estonian or russian)<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is important to keep in mind that, like with any other illness, depression needs to be addressed and treated, and you need to take care of yourself.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Remember that your friend does not have to be alone with their worries! Encourage your friend or loved one to talk about their issues with someone who can help (eg a parent).
